Non-DoD agencies like CBP, TSA, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons also procure uniforms through SAM.gov. The AbilityOne program mandates sourcing certain textile products from nonprofits employing individuals with disabilities. Beyond uniforms, federal textile procurement includes body armor, ballistic fabrics, parachutes, tentage, and fire-resistant materials. Manufacturers must comply with military specifications (MIL-SPEC), maintain quality systems, and demonstrate domestic production capacity under the Berry Amendment. Companies with experience in technical textiles, flame-resistant fabrics, and quick-turn production capabilities find the strongest demand. First article testing and ongoing quality surveillance are standard contract requirements.
